For This Child We Have Prayed

For This Child We Have Prayed

We have often seen and heard the "For This Child We Have Prayed" Verse when babies are born and an exciting new life enters the world. This story in Samuel is such a great representation of prayer and faith, and the value that the Lord places on a child.

For This Child We Have Prayed Verse

1 Samuel 1:27-28 are especially wonderful Bible verses for parents or for someone who has just had a baby that they have prayed for. Samuel's mother Hannah is such a great example of faith for someone in a journey of infertility.

She was discouraged but never gave up hope that the Lord would bless her with a child. And once that child was born, Hannah gave him back to the Lord. In this, she sacrificed her time with Samuel so that he would be living worship to God who had blessed her with such a precious gift.

How wonderful it is to know that God is no respecter of persons and honors our faith in His promises! We pray that these verses will encourage you or someone you know with bringing a new precious life into the world!

1 Samuel 1:27-28

27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.

For This Child I Have Prayed

Book of Samuel

The book of Samuel begins with a distraught woman longing for a child. Hannah, who is obviously dealing with some type of infertility, was ridiculed and provoked because year after year she was unable to have a child.

She was downhearted and depressed to the point that she couldn't even eat. She was heartbroken. Unwavering in her petition to the Lord, the downcast Hannah took herself to the temple of the Lord and wept bitterly and cried out for the Lord to give her a child.

Eli, the priest of the temple, heard Hannah's weeping and saw her condition. He thought she was drunk. He approached her and she told him that she was not drunk, but crying out in anguish to the Lord for a child.

Eli quickly came into agreement with her that her prayers would be answered, and told her to go home in peace and that she should expect the Lord to grant her this promise. Perhaps this agreement in faith is just what Hannah needed! She went about her way, and the Word says in Samuel that she was able to eat and that she was no longer downcast! She believed! Hannah worshiped the Lord the next day and soon became pregnant.

Hannah was so grateful and thankful to the Lord for blessing her with a child that she fulfilled her promise to God and gave her child back to the Lord. As soon as he was weaned, she took Samuel to the temple and presented him to Eli the priest. She explained that she was the woman who was there not long before, weeping for a child. She said, "For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord."

This is the story behind the verse “For This Child We Have Prayed.” It is a story of faith and prayer, and the heart of our Heavenly Father to give us the desires of our hearts. As you read through this Old Testament scripture, we pray that you see the heart of our good God and reflect on these verses with the power and life Jesus brought us on the cross. We are the chosen, favored people of God and He is always seeking to bless us when we have faith in Him.
