Joy To The World - A Christmas Devotion Day 1
The angel said to the shepherds in Luke 2:10–11: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
The time had come, just as the prophets had foretold, just as generations of God’s people had longed for, a moment written into eternity before the foundations of the world were laid. The Messiah had arrived.
The world was still caught in sin, making sacrifice after sacrifice with no true rest in sight. There was no way to come freely before God, no way to speak with Him and be certain that nothing stood in the way. We were unworthy. We couldn’t earn His love because He is holy beyond measure. We needed a Savior. And that Savior came. He tore down the wall between us and our heavenly Father. He made away for us to dwell with God and to walk in the fullness of what He had planned for us from the very beginning.
Then the angel declared in Luke 2:14: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Because Jesus came to bring peace, a peace between God and us. No longer would our sin be counted against us(Psalm 32:2). Through Christ, God would make a new and everlasting covenant. And His peace and kindness? They will never be shaken (Isaiah 54:10).
