I have often told my husband that if we don’t accomplish anything in life except teaching our children to love the Lord, that will be enough. When we teach our kids the Word of God and when they memorize scripture verses, they are not only committing words to memory and training their brains, but they are planting seeds of the Word in their hearts that will grow and bear fruit for a lifetime.
I am so grateful to have had wonderful God-fearing parents that taught me the Bible at an early age, and also I was able to memorize scripture at school. Those verses have stayed with me well into my adult years and built a foundation of faith for me that won’t be shaken! Let’s commit, as parents, to do the same for our children and give them a firm foundation for life and Godliness! Bible verses for kids do just that.
The Value of Scripture For Children
Children are not just small versions of us. They have minds, souls and spirits also. They respond to the truth of the Bible just like we do!
By teaching them to study the Word of God we are not only giving them a foundation of truth, but also instilling in them a love of learning the Bible and learning about the Lord. That is what will be most valuable in their lifetime! Knowing that if they don't know the answer to a problem, they can always seek the Lord and His word and find wisdom and comfort.
Bible Verses For Kids
Take a look at this short list of verses that are great for small kids (and big kids too!) to start memorizing. Start with one each week and build on their knowledge of the Bible! These are short verses that they won’t easily forget and that will stay with them for a lifetime.
For older children, have them look up the context of each verse and explain why it is important to learn. Some of the children's Bible verses include a paraphrased version, so be sure to read your child the whole verse in a Bible version you prefer and then let them memorize the paraphrased version. You can tailor this to your child's age and skill level.
1 Chronicles 16:34: Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His love endures forever.
Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Proverbs 31:10: She is far more precious than jewels.
John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
1 Corinthians 10:31: Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
John 10:11: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Psalm 118:24: This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Luke 6:31: Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
Verses for Kids on God's Protection
Kids get scared sometimes and need some reassurance. These are just a few great Bible verses for kids to memorize so that they can call to memory the Word of God when they are frightened.
Psalm 91 has been such a comfort in the recent months, and a reminder that we are not alone and that we have been promised protection by the Word of God.
Isaiah 43:5: Do not be afraid for I am with you.
Acts 16:31: Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.
John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Prayers For Children
As you memorize these verses with your kids, pray with them also. We know that kids will model everything we do (good and bad!) Prayer is no different. As they are learning what each verse that they memorize means, pray with them regarding that verse. Wall art like our Now I Lay me Down To Sleep sign is a reminder to pray with your children every day.
Nighttime Children's Prayer:
Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Angels watch me through the night,
and wake me with the morning light. Amen.
Children's Prayer of Thanks:
Dear God, I'm thankful for all you give:
for food, for love, a place to live.
I thank you for my family too,
and I want you to know,
that I love you. Amen.
The Lord's Prayer:
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever, Amen.
Let the Children Come to Me
Just as we love making products that encourage, remind and inspire you to keep the Word of God in the forefront of your mind, we love creating products that help you keep your children in the word also. Nothing is more important than filling our children with hope and truth as we send them out into the world!
We have designed these coloring sheets to pair with several of the Bible verses as you learn them with your children. They can design their own coloring sheet as they meditate and memorize the words to the scripture for that week! This is an opportunity to make little posters of kids motivational quotes from the Bible.
It is a great way to display their art where the whole family can see it and be encouraged by it also. We hope your family enjoys these coloring pages based on Bible verses for kids.
Thanks for your effort the verses are encouraging and they will guide me during Sunday school lessons.May God bless you
I find these Bible verses for kids very inspirational and easy to share to my children and grandchildren.
